Amanda Layer
Mrs. Layer is a 2009 graduate of Bluffton High School and a 2013 graduate of Capital University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education. While at Capital University she performed with various university choruses, including the Chapel Choir, Women's Chorus and the vocal chamber ensemble, Philomel. Her time with these choirs included international tours to South Africa and Oman, as well as performances at the World Choir Games Competition in 2012, where the Chapel Choir won gold medals in the Mixed Choir and Music Sacra competitions.
Before coming to Kettering, Mrs. Layer led the elementary general music program and created and directed the vocal music program at Marion Local Schools. During her six years at Marion Local, she also served as the music director for the spring drama club performances and the assistant marching band director for the high school competition season.
Mrs. Layer is currently in year seven as an Elementary Music Specialist at Kettering City Schools. Her students at Oakview perform in the school and community several times a year, showcasing the musicianship skills and love of music fostered in the classroom. In addition to performances within our Kettering community, Mrs. Layer has helped coach several students to earn placement in the Ohio Music Education Association's All-State Children's Chorus. Mrs. Layer is so honored to be a part of a community of families, educators, and students who value the art of music in Kettering City Schools!
