Matthew Phillips
Matthew Phillips serves as the Director of Athletic Bands for Kettering City Schools, where he oversees the Marching Firebirds, Athletic Band, and helps support Kettering’s winter guard and percussion programs. A proud graduate of Kettering Fairmont High School, Mr. Phillips is grateful for the opportunity to teach in the same program that first inspired his love of music.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Northern Kentucky University and has been part of the Kettering music faculty since 2019, teaching band students in grades 6-12. In addition to his work in education, Mr. Phillips performs as the principal bass trombonist with the Cincinnati Wind Band, a position he has held since 2011.
Outside of music, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Brooke, their two children, Enola and Emsbry, and their four dogs and cat.
